From Blog to Print…a Pioneering Woman

Ree Drummond, the blogger turned Food Network star known as the Pioneer Woman, is about to get her own glossy print magazine.

“The first issue of the magazine will debut in June and it will be edited by Food Network Magazine editor in chief Maile Carpenter,” writes Alexandra Steigrad in Women’s Wear Daily. “Hearst said it will introduce two issues in 2017. It could not be determined what the frequency will be long-term, but in previous magazine launches, Hearst tends to test out the glossy before ramping up full-scale.”

From a folksy and humble beginning on a blog ten years ago, Drummond now owns a brick and mortar store and eatery in Oklahoma, and a cookware and home products line featured in Walmart.

Her magazine, according to Steigrad, “will showcase Drummond’s accessible style for cooking, meal planning and casual entertaining. There will also be fashion, style and culture stories that have a personal touch.”

Hearst has a good track record with magazines of this sort.

“The notion of partnering with a celebrity or TV show is an old formula at Hearst, which has also developed magazines around Oprah Winfrey with O, the Oprah Magazine, the aforementioned titles, and Dr Oz: The Good Life,” Steigrad reminds us. And of course, their iconic Food Network Magazine, where any number of rising TV foodies have been featured.

It should make for great reading and a logical next move for the multi-media Pioneer Woman franchise. Can’t wait to see it in print!
