Not Just a Free Font, It’s an Ear Virus

This week’s first free font put a wicked ear virus in my brain. (Watch the video; you’re welcome… Big Bad John…) Aside from that, it also packs some big design choices.

Big John PRO is a free typeface from Ionyc Type in NYC, and is a follow-on to their Slim Joe and Regular Jim fonts. This modern geometric sans serif beauty comes with caps, lower case and more than 500 special characters. When combined with Joe and Jim, the effect is powerful yet highly readable, bringing a punch of character with great control. This would look excellent in branding materials, packaging, posters or magazine copy. Download free for personal use from Behance.

Following Big John PRO is Mathison, created by Gabriela Bury in Sosnowiec, Poland. This serif font features flattened curves and tiny but spiky serifs that make a real statement against the elongated height. It’s available in regular, bold, italic, and bold italic, with special characters that support more than 26 languages. Mathison would look awesome on printed apparel, posters and headers. Download free from Behance.

Enjoy these two powerful fonts and make something strong. Then come back next week for another free font Friday!
