An Ironic Pair for This Week’s Free Font Friday

“Big words deserve big letters.”

That’s the statement from NY type designer Ion Lucin about his Big John and Slim Joe font families. A self-described minimalist when it comes to design, Lucin offers up a pair of contrasting, all-caps typefaces, one bold and one light. It’s made for contrast (bold against the light), or irony (sort of like writing the word “blue” in green ink. What will your eyes see?) It’s great for high-contrast, graphic type treatments on posters or typographic illustrations. Download both families for free at Behance.

Also this week, meet Monthoers by Indonesian graphic designer Agga Swistblnk. It features an inky, old-style printed appearance and comes with more than 15 special characters and decorative swashes. Try it when you want to replicate the look of hand-drawn lettering or add a true vintage texture to logos or other featured typography. Download free from Behance.

Enjoy these fonts, and get a little creative this week. And as always, come back next week for our Free Font Friday!
