Print magazine’s Typography & Lettering Awards program announces this year’s judging panel.
Mmmmmm….. Typefaces….
Around here, good typography makes us feel like Homer dreaming about donuts. We just can’t get enough of that deliciousness.
So we’re excited for the upcoming “Typography & Lettering Awards” sponsored by Print magazine. This year, they are bringing in Veronika Burian to judge the Typeface Design category, according to this post in Print.
“In 2006 Burian launched the independent type foundry TypeTogether with business partner José Scaglione. Ten years later, she generously agreed to bring her knowledge to PRINT’s Typography & Lettering Awards as judge of the Typeface Design category,” the post notes.
She started her career in industrial design, but “never felt quite at home in it.” A loss for that industry, but a win for the type industry for certain.
Burian, self-described as “pairing of sensitiveness with functionality and giving it a twist,” hopes to see a “strong concept behind the design” and “technical proficiency” in contest entries. She gives examples of some of her favorite projects in the article, and they are all worth a look.
Type designers, the early bird deadline for entries is October 14; get more info here. And good luck.
