We take our responsibility to the environment seriously. That’s why we’re determined to make our carbon footprint as small as it can be, and why we’ve implemented such a robust environmental policy.
Like all the paper suppliers we work with, we’re FSC®-certified, so your magazine can be produced using 100% guaranteed FSC®-certified paper, from forest to printed product.
Since our inks are soy-based, with an average of 65% bio-based renewable-resource content, our publishers are approved by The American Soybean Association to include the SoySeal in their magazines. And because our new presses run Gray Component Replacement on all work produced, we consume 15% less ink on every job.
We recycle all our paper waste, office waste, plastic and aluminum — more than 11.3 million pounds of paper waste and nearly 250,000 pounds of aluminum printing plates in 2020 alone. That’s enough to save. . .
Nearly 100,000 trees and 100,000 barrels of oil
Just under 20,000 cubic yards of landfill space
We’re also very careful about what we put into the environment. We own and operate a regenerative thermal pollution control unit that removes 98.5% of all VOCs. Once up to temperature, this self-sustaining system uses the solvents in the printing process to fuel the burner, thus reducing the amount of natural gas consumed. We use FLOCLEAR etch and solvent filtration and recovery systems in our pressroom to reduce the number of gallons of wastewater produced, as well as the number of water-system cleaning cycles. We use soy-based, environmentally friendly cleaning supplies and detergents. And we even operate our own water treatment plant, capable of processing up to 10,000 gallons per day, to minimize the impact on our local community.
Freeport Press became FSC® certified in January 2009. FSC® C006293
Freeport Press currently owns and operates a facility-wide Regenerative Pollution Control device that operates at a 98.6 % level of VOC destructive efficiency.
Freeport Press currently owns and operates its own 10,000 gallons per day wastewater treatment facility.
All standard inks used are soy-based. Soy is used as a carrier for the printing inks. For the production of soy ink, the soybean oil is blended with pigments, resins and waxes to make ink.
Our new presses run Gray Component Replacement (GCR) on all work produced, allowing us to consume 15% less ink on every job.
More than 11,000,000 pounds of paper are recycled per year through our environmental management program.
Nearly 250,000 aluminum printing plates are recycled each year through our environmental management program.
All detergents consumed in manufacturing are soy-based and environmentally friendly.
Our pressroom is equipped with an etch and solvent filtration and recovery system which reduces the number of gallons of wastewater produced as well as the number of water cleaning cycles.
