Is it time to engage your customers via podcast? Judging from the uptick in the number of brands and social media consultants publishing audio content, it may be.
Lori Taylor, founder and editor of Social Caffeine, tells us that podcasts are an up and coming medium for brands and bloggers to better connect with their audience. And she points to the captive audience of daily commuters as a potential listener pool.
“Over 100 million Americans commute to work on their own in a car every day,” says Taylor. “All those people are potential podcast listeners. Their only other option is to listen to the radio, and who wants to do that when podcasts mean you can choose what you listen to and when? Little wonder then that iTunes recently reached one billion subscriptions.”
According to Tom Martin of ConverseDigital in his article Marketing at the Speed of Sound, “the percentage of consumers indicating they have listened to an audio podcast has grown 163% from 11% in 2006 to 29% in 2012.”
So it looks like that one billion is poised to grow.
