Do the new USPS postal rate hikes have you feeling blue, seeing red, and worried about your green? Put those colors to good use and get 2% upfront off your direct mail postage costs, through March 31.
The discount is part of the 2014 Branded Color Mobile Technology Promotion from the USPS, which encourages mailers to push the envelope and expand their mobile technology usage beyond basic black and white QR codes.
“Colorful, creative and attention-getting QR codes can make a huge difference in brand awareness and engagement in your audience,” explains Tom Watry, manager of mailing and distribution for Freeport Press. “Now is a great time to test out this cutting age marketing concept and save good money on your postage in the process.”
Set your designers free on this idea and you may be blown away what they’ll create. Some awesome examples are from artist Yiying Lu, as posted in Mashable, proving once again that technology can exist hand-in-hand with great design and art.
So why is the postal service offering a discount to rates they just raised?
According to the USPS, “As mobile technology continues to evolve, it’s important for businesses to adopt and invest in technologies that enhance how customers interact and engage with mail. [This promotion] encourages mailers to get creative and expand their mobile technology usage by designing attention-grabbing QR codes that use color and/or graphics for their mailpieces.”
Of course, offering a mobile interaction like this to your customers makes it imperative that the entire experience be mobile friendly, so be sure your development team uses responsive design on the landing page.
Eligible classes include First Class, Standard Mail, Non Profits, Presorted/Automated flats, letters and postcards. The 2% discount is deducted from the postage amounts of qualifying products categories that are paid at the time of mailing.
